…and when we meet the dealer for the first time and he offers the drugs to Cathal you see this moment in his eyes where he’s genuinely angry and probably realizes he’s getting taken advantage of and making a bad decision, then suddenly it switches again and he’s back to pleases and thank yous because he just needs it and can’t refuse.
It doesn’t even seem so much like he’s on the drugs due to only addiction - he’s using them to run away from the hurt.
Then when he meets Fred he finally finds the motivation and self acceptance to try and stop it, but it’s too late. He can’t help himself and it’s so fucking sad.
This is why my heart breaks for Cathal.

But the stand out performance is from Colin Morgan as Cathal, who appears worlds away from his titular role in BBC’s Merlin. Playing a drug-addled optimistic Dubliner, Morgan outdid himself with the technical and emotional aspects of the role. Cathal is a multifaceted character – an estranged and lost child, a reflective soul, a self-destructive drug addict and a loyal friend. He is very central to the story, even given his little association with Jules – and Colin Morgan played this delicate fragile character of many aspects with much sensitivity and charm. Without a doubt, the final act of his performance was heart-wrenching, moving and stirred so much empathy for Cathal that it almost became unforgettable.
